The Rape Of The MySpace Bloggers

Friends, Spazzsters & Fellow Bloggers, lend me your eyes (& your ears, if you feel so inclined)!!!!

Alas, though I will be roughly the 2, 894, 654th person to write ad nauseum on this topic, I feel compelled to do so...

Okay, okay... I may be overdramatizing a teeny weeny bit when I compare MySpace's plundering & pillaging of its blogging community to the Rape Of the Sabine Women, BUT it's still MY space & I'll dramatize if I want to, dramatize if I want to... dramatize if I want to...

Congratulations to MySpace!!!
HIP HIP HOORAY!!!!!!!

They will have done what my husband has been unable to do for almost 2-1/2 years:
Make me stop participating in this crazy little thing called blogging.

The limitations on the length of the comments & the inability to directly reply to a reader's comment is something seen on other blogging sites like Blogspot which is why I focused my energies here instead of there.

That boundless energy flow between reader & writer is a delicious indulgence that I crave voraciously. It is the kiss of Venus on love-starved lips... utterly DIVINE!

I will not be censored.
500 characters does not a comment make!
I'd rather type into my computer & read my words myself than see this mess of stunted & shunted energy.

It is not about validation... it is about interaction!
I seek real discourse with those who take the time & energy to read my nonsense... true intercourse with willing minds other than my own!!!

If all I want to do is ejaculate & get off on some quick validation ala the pedestrian worldwide circle jerk du jour, I can "tweet" & easily elicit responses that way (which I will continue to do & I may finally start doing it on Facebook... haha), but this will be last blog here until the fall.

I may post some travel & food blogs about Italy & France on The Gourmet Chronicles &/or Closed Captioned For The Thinking Impaired on Blogspot, but, then again, I may not.

The joy of blogging for me comes after the writing & during the commentary.

More times than not, your comments have inspired me to write new essays, poems & stories. Conversely, many is the time that a comment of mine for one of your blogs has inspired me to post it as a more fully realized write of its own.

BTW, this "blog" was my comment to the beautiful KJ's blog where she entreated us to be patient & tough out this latest incarnation of the summertime blues that the Spazz always seems to exhibit when the days are long & the nights are warm, but since MySpace deemed it "too long" a comment I opted to post it as this bloggity thang with which I am polluting the cyber highways & biways on this August day.

We are most definitely witnessing a new blogging format.

It's the sad end of era, but hey... when one door closes, another one opens.... eventually.
I'll always leave a light in the window for MySpace.
I love this place & you all too much.

I'll see you in Philippi...

Philippi,
another place now filled with nostalgia gone to rubble & ruin, was the site of the famous battle fought in 42 BC where the armies of Mark Antony & Octavius defeated the armies of those who had assassinated Julius Caesar.

Dear old Brutus & Cassius, the co-conspirators, committed suicide upon being defeated for a second time & many monuments were erected commemorating the site of the victory which was granted status of Roman colony.

Plutarch famously reported that Brutus experienced a vision of a ghost a few months before the battle.

One night he saw a huge and shadowy form appearing in front of him; when he calmly asked, "What and whence art thou?"

It replied "Thy evil spirit, Brutus: I shall see thee at Philippi."

That poor brute met the ghost the night before the battle.
Things didn't go too well for him, I'm afraid.

Plutarch also reports the last words of Brutus, quoted by a Greek tragedy "O wretched Virtue, thou wert but a name, and yet I worshipped thee as real indeed; but now, it seems, thou were but fortune's slave."

Ain't it the everloving truth?
Kinda sorta reminds you of the nonsense going here on MySpace, doesn't it?

Haha

xoxoxoxo

Here's to Philippi & MySpace, both glorious sites of what once thrived & flourished, but now remain in ruins as mad sad reminders of man's folly:

This article (click any part of this paragraph to read it & thanks to Tom Carpenter for unearthing it) may explain why MySpace has been making all these terrible formatting changes for the past year. What the geniuses of marketing at MySpace failed to understand is that many of its subscribers are also members of Facebook, Blogspot, Wordpress, Twitter, etc & the ONLY reason we remained on MySpace was because of its excellent blogging platform which was unique in all of cyberdom. We no longer have any reason to prefer MySpace to Facebook.

The irony is that its viewership is now steadily DECREASING & MySpace is about to lose its alliance with Google which means beaucoup dollars down the loo.
Shakespeare couldn't have written a more moving tragedy in the great Greek tradition.

So you see in its desperation to appear relevant & regain marketshare with the under 35 year old demographic that dominates the scene at Facebook & Twitter, MySpace has managed to disenfranchise its true subscription base.
In the so doing, Newscorp guaranteed MySpace's demise in the "social networking" world & sealed its own coffin...

With many thanks to Irony Monkey, CLICK HERE for contact information of all the head honchos here at the Spazz and voice your displeasure about the new proposed format changes.

  1. Glory Be; found you. Turns out I've had a fall back blog here since 2004. Not that I really ever used it. But hey.

    Cheers,
    E.

  2. E!!!!

I'm exalted! I've been using this since last summer's debacle, but I so rarely post here. I do, however, store all of my blogs in draft here & write all of my bits of madness here since Blogger autosaves all posts every few minutes. Something that MySpace should do!
